College Internship Program

The Loveland-Symmes Fire Department offers a summer Internship program that provides Bachelors Degree seeking students in a fire science related program. This is an opportunity for students to gain knowledge, training, and experience related to their field of study. Our program offers many opportunities through hands on training, and responding to runs to set up an individual for a successful career path.

The Firefighter Intern train to respond to emergency situations and preform task. When not responding to emergencies, the intern will be assigned a project he or she is assigned. Furthermore, the intern will assist with community relations details and other training activities associated within LSFD.

Qualifications include:


- Applicant must be 18 yrs of age or older.

- Possess a valid drivers license.

- Possess a GED or High School Diploma.

- Current State Firefighter 1 Card (120 Hr Min) IFSAC or Pro-Board

- Preferable NREMT or above certification.

- Current CPR Card from American Heart Association and maintain it during internship.

- Be enrolled in a Bachelors Degree Program Related to Fire Science. 

- Have an overall GPA of 2.5 or greater.

- Possess the strength and stamina to pass a physical abilities test and health screening.

- Consent to a qualifying Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check. 

- Consent to and pass a comprehensive drug screening.

- Be able to validate prior work or leisure team work experience.
