CodeRed “Get Notified!!!”

LSFD along with the City of Loveland and Symmes Township have partnered together to use the CodeRed High Speed Notification System. The CodeRED Emergency Notification System is a high volume - high speed Communication Service available for mass Emergency Notifications. CodeRED employs a one-of-a-kind Internet mapping capability for geographic targeting of calls, coupled with a high speed telephone calling system capable of delivering customized pre-recorded emergency messages directly to homes and businesses at the proven capacity of millions of calls per day. CodeRED subscribers control their emergency broadcasts from anywhere in the world via a secure Internet web site. CodeRED offers an unprecedented level of security, robustness, performance, and ease-of-use for government agencies, communities, and businesses. What this means for our residents is that should a situation occur in which we need to contact a large number of people as quickly as possible, LSFD uses CodeRed to send telephone messages to people in our jurisdiction. Our database is derived from the 911 database and will only be used when critical information is available for our residents. Since the 911 Database is landline based, cell phone numbers are not included. You can make sure that all of your numbers are included in our system by clicking on the link below. Businesses also need to register to get notified since only the residential 911 database is available. For any questions please contact Deputy Chief Knapp at aknapp@safety-center.org for more information.

Paramedics on Bikes

The Paramedics on Bikes program started over ten years ago with the completion of the Little Miami Bike Trail through the City of Loveland. A need was identified to handle emergencies on the bike trail, as well as at special events throughout Loveland and Symmes Township. The department has two Trek bicycles equipped with first aid supplies, oxygen, and heart monitors. Bike Medics are capable of handling the same type of emergencies that they would encounter in an ambulance. Bike Medics are available for any special event in the City of Loveland and Symmes Township. Lt. Steve Money is responsible for the Paramedics on Bikes Program. To schedule bike medics for an event or learn more about the program, click on the link below.

Pedi Med Program

The Loveland-Symmes Fire Department has teamed up with the Loveland City School District and other schools in the area to insure the safety of our “special needs” children. The Pedi Med Program gathers information from parents on any medical conditions that may be encountered either at school or while at home. This information is collected and entered into a database kept in emergency vehicles and with Northeast Communications. Each child is assigned an individual number that corresponds with their medical history and the information can be reviewed by responding emergency personnel. A copy of this information can be made available to the child’s school at the parents’ request. This program gives paramedics the advantage to view useful information such as the child’s name, address, medical information, family notification, medications, allergies to medication, and hospital preference. If a child has a rare form of disease or illness, the Pedi Med fire department representative will research the medical condition and hold a special training session to educate paramedics who may some day respond to an emergency involving that child. Additional services of the Pedi Med Program include free home safety inspections, training children how to safely evacuate homes in the event of fire, and in some cases distributing smoke detectors to homes with children with handicaps such as hearing impairments. Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Ellis is responsible for the Pedi Med Program.

Senior Med Program

The Senior Med Program is an aggressive program that is geared towards addressing the needs of the senior citizens in our community. This program affords paramedics the opportunity to review crucial information prior to their arrival on an emergency call involving a Senior Med customer. Once a citizen decides that they are interested in the program a fire department representative interviews the new member for relevant information needed for the program. The information gathered is helpful in the event that an emergency should occur involving that senior citizen. Information is provided the fire department on a voluntary basis. Information gathered includes:

• Name, age, address, and phone number
• Closest family/friend and phone number
• Emergency phone numbers
• Medications taken
• Medication allergies
• Primary care physician
• Hospital preference
• Any special circumstance that might pertain to that individual

Once the interview is completed, the department representative enters the gathered information into a database that is only accessible by the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department and the Northeast Communications Center (NECC). Customers are then assigned a number that corresponds with the information and this number is relayed to responding emergency units in the event of an emergency involving the Senior Med customer. Responding paramedics may then reference this information while responding to a scene.

Fire department representatives are available to customers every day of the week. Upon request, fire department representatives will come to the homes of customers to conduct interviews, take vital signs, update information, perform home safety inspections, deliver reflective address signs, and evaluate any “special needs” customers. In addition, Senior Med representatives will initiate calls to customers and check on their well-being during periods of inclement weather. Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Ellis is responsible for the Senior Med Program.

Reflective Address Signs

Many times when responding to an emergency, public safety personnel have difficulty in locating the address numbers for the location that they have been dispatched to. The Loveland-Symmes Fire Department asks that residents and business owners in the City of Loveland and Symmes Township help make sure that all occupancies can be easily identified in the event of an emergency. The fire department offers reflective address signs for $15 to help assist in achieving this goal. The signs can be obtained by calling Fire Headquarters at (513) 583-3001.

Knox Box Rapid Entry System

The KNOX-BOX® solution is a secure rapid entry program specifically developed for fire departments. With one master key, the Loveland-Symmes has the ability to gain access to commercial and residential properties located throughout our response district. More than 6,000 departments nationwide use Knox key boxes and vaults, Haz-Mat cabinets, key switches, and padlocks. Property owners in Loveland and Symmes Township can store their entrance keys in high-security key boxes mounted near their building entrances. Each KNOX-BOX® purchased by the property owner is keyed to a single master key controlled by the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department. With the Knox System, there is no delay in waiting for a property owner to unlock the door in the middle of the night, and no forcing the door open to gain entry. The Knox Rapid Entry System reduces response time and property damage. Ohio Fire Code Section 506 requires commercial and industrial occupancies to have a KNOX-BOX® at the discretion of the fire official. It is the responsibility of the property owner to purchase, maintain, and insure that the KNOX-BOX® has the proper keys located within it. When ordering and installing a KNOX-BOX® please contact Fire Headquarters so that we can work with you on getting the correct box and placing the box in a proper location. For more information on the Knox Box System visit www.knoxbox.com and call Fire Headquarters at (513) 583-3001.
