| COMMITMENT, FREEDOM, and DEDICATION------------
from those who serve to those they serve |
| |
“Whatever the cause . . . whatever it takes – we’re proud to serve”
This is the commitment of the Loveland-Symmes Firefighter's Association. |
Some form of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department has served the surrounding community since as early as the 1860’s. For years, our members have stood as an advocate of the local community and have always been driven to give as much as possible back into the community we serve. Not many people realize that the LSFD receives a wide array of support from the Loveland-Symmes Firefighters Association (LSFA). The LSFA is a non-profit organization that works year round to raise funds to help supplement the department and many other community services. Most of the members of the LSFA are also members of the fire department or their families. These individuals work diligently year-round at fundraisers to raise money to donate to the fire department and other causes around the community.

Over the last 10 years the LSFA has purchased a custom fire engine, two ambulances, and one of the largest heavy rescue trucks in the country for the LSFD. The Firefighter’s Association has also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars for the purchase of safety equipment for the department. This show of support from the LSFA helps the LSFD fulfill one of the department’s core missions; to provide the most technologically advanced fire, EMS and rescue service to the residents of Loveland and Symmes Township. The LSFA also funds the department’s commitment to Task Force One (TF-1), which provides nationally recognized technical rescue service to Clermont, Hamilton and Warren Counties, as well as any other jurisdiction which requests the services of TF-1.

Among other things, the LSFA operates one of the largest BINGO operations in the surrounding area and sponsors a festival in Symmes Township Park every August. Local residents directly benefit from of all the returns in some way. The LSFA also supports the communities we serve in many other ways. Always willing to help, the LSFA has supported several community projects with donations to park funds, school programs, beautification projects, and other non-profit organizations in the area. In 1996, the LSFA purchased the old Crist Theater located behind Station 63 on Second Street in downtown Loveland. The Firefighter’s Association donated the theater to the Loveland Stage Company. Over the years, the LSFA has worked with the Stage Company to restore and maintain the historic building. The theater is now the permanent home of the Loveland Stage Company. Because of the Firefighter’s Association commitment to the community, the LSFA received a Post Corbett award for outstanding volunteer organization in 1997. For many years, the LSFA provided a home to local Senior Citizens Center and the association also purchased the local VFW building. The LSFA immediately began work to improve the property both in aesthetics and efficiency. The VFW building is now home to the LSFA-sponsored BINGO. More importantly though, is that with the purchase of this building the LSFA made a commitment to the VFW that the veterans would never be without a home in this community. To this day, the VFW is still utilizing their meeting and club room without the burden of trying to maintain the property. This is just part of our commitment to support this community and to honor the history of the area and its residents. In some form, the LSFA has been active in the community for almost a century and a half. It is managed and supported by firefighters from the past and present and we will continue to provide that support in the future.
